Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is administered through medication that our team will prescribe. You will also be given detailed instructions regarding when to take it before your procedure is set to begin. Please arrange for a trusted friend or family member to drive you to our OKC office, as you will already be starting to feel the effects at this point – they will also need to escort you home as well for safety purposes.
Once you’ve arrived, our team will help you get settled into the treatment chair comfortably and ensure that you’re fully relaxed before Dr. Isaacson begins treatment. While patients will be aware enough to respond to any questions or requests we make, they likely won’t remember much about the experience after they’ve fully recovered. Instead, they can simply focus on enjoying their healthier, happier smile!
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide is often referred to by a funnier name – “laughing gas.” This mild sedative can be safely provided to children and adults alike here in Oklahoma City. The process is simple: once the patient is settled into the treatment chair, our team will carefully place a nasal mask and then start administering the nitrous oxide with a mixture of oxygen. After a few minutes of breathing it in, feelings of contentment and calmness should begin while the patient continues to remain fully conscious. This will allow their treatment to proceed smoothly.
One of the biggest benefits of choosing nitrous oxide is that the effects wear off just as quickly as they began – all it takes is a few minutes of breathing in regular air after we’ve removed the nasal mask.
